Have you every lost or misplaced your passport? Or perhaps it has been torn, soaked, or damaged? These happenings can be very inconvenient, especially if you are a going to travel soon. Fortunately, you can apply to have your passport replaced!
If you are a Filipino based in Taiwan, you can apply to have your lost or damaged passport replaced at the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO). Its main office is located in Taipei, and there are extension offices in Taichung and Kaohsiung, as well.
Here is an overview of the steps to replacing a lost or damaged passport in Taiwan, based on the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) official website.
Requirements for Passport Replacement
The requirements for replacing a lost or damaged/mutilated passport are as follows:
For Lost Passport
- Online appointment at https://www.passport.gov.ph/
- Applicant’s personal appearance at MECO
- Printed Application Form
- Report on Passport Lost from the Taiwan National Immigration Agency
- Affidavit of Loss of Passport to be carried out in MECO
- One (1) photocopy of data page of the lost passport (pages 2 and 3)
- Valid ARC plus one (1) photocopy of the front and back sides
- One (1) photocopy of latest Taiwan Visa
- PSA Certificate of Live Birth plus one (1) photocopy
- Other Philippine-issued IDs
- Processing fee of TWD 4,500
For Mutilated or Damaged Passport
- Online appointment at https://www.passport.gov.ph/
- Applicant’s personal appearance at MECO
- Printed Application Form
- Current Philippine passport plus one (1) photocopy of data page (pages 2 and 3)
- Valid ARC plus one (1) photocopy of the front and back sides
- One (1) photocopy of latest Taiwan Visa
- PSA Certificate of Marriage/MECO-registered Report of
- Marriage plus one (1) photocopy
- Processing fee of TWD 2,000
Passport Replacement Procedure
The procedure for passport replacement is similar to getting a new passport. Once you have prepared all the documents, you’ll need to set an appointment at the MECO office. Simply follow these steps:
- Set an appointment at the MECO office through this link.
- Check your information to ensure that your details are correct; don’t forget to include an active or working email address.
- Confirm your application by clicking the link sent to your registered email address.
- On the appointed date and time, go to the MECO office.
- Submit your application form and documents for checking and verification.
- Pay the required processing fee at the Cashier.
- Wait for a text or email message from MECO regarding the schedule of your passport’s release. You can also check the status of your passport by logging into the Passport Releasing Portal.
Passport Releasing Procedure
Typically, you can expect your new passport to be released about five (5) weeks from the date of application. This includes the period for printing passports at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in the Philippines, and the transport of passports to Taiwan.
As soon as you have confirmed that your passport is ready to be released, you can claim it from the MECO office.
How to Claim Philippine Passport
You can claim your new passport from MECO via three ways: in person, through a representative, or passport delivery service.
- Personal Claiming. To claim your passport in person, just present your MECO claim stub at the MECO office.
- Claiming Through Representative. To claim your passport through an authorized representative, you’ll need to fill-up an Authorization Form on the day of your passport application. On the day of claiming, your representative must present your MECO claim stub and his/her valid ID for verification.
- Passport Delivery Service. You can have your passport delivered to your address, provided that you apply for passport delivery service on the day of your passport application. The service costs TWD 270 for intercity delivery, and TWD 290 for delivery to outlying islands.
